Sustainability Lab
Beweship launched in early 2022 a sustainability lab to propose concrete thinking and real actions to improve the company’s environmental impact considering all aspects of ESG.
The biggest and most important action is the transparent and accurate calculation of Beweship’s yearly CO2 emissions.
The lab is composed of employees from Finnish, Latvian, Estonian, and Polish offices, which permits them to have a global view of company impact and to make a real change within the whole company when an action is taken.
It is important to raise awareness about sustainability for staff and stakeholders.
The lab is meeting monthly to exchange ideas for the future, but also to review the results from previous actions and improve continuously the process for better results.
STAFF INVOLVEMENT
As the best way to have a direct and efficient improvement is to take concrete decisions that impact the whole company, Beweship considers a lot the involvement of staff in the decision-making.
It is important that everyone´s idea is heard.
Identification of sustainable pain points and improvement suggestions comes directly from the staff, using different tools such as a sustainability corner in our intranet , a 24/7 online whiteboard or Q&A sessions, where everyone can add their own ideas, reflection, and suggestions.
More concrete actions will also be organized during 2023, where the staff of all Beweship offices will be invited to beach clean-up days, in collaboration with the Keep the archipelago tidy association.
In 2019, on the beach of AurinkoLahti, just within a day, Beweship staff has collected :
285 pieces of plastics, 251 pieces of papers and cardboard, 71 pieces of metal, 64 pieces of glass, 5 pieces of fabric, 13 pieces of timber, 31 pieces of organic waste, 3 rubber pieces, 3 pieces of electronic components, and last but not least: 1111 cigarettes butts !!

Emission calculation
Since 2021, Beweship publishes each year emission reports concerning Scope 1, 2, and partially 3 complying with GHG protocol corporate standards.
Every year, Beweship looks to improve its calculating methods to be better and more specific. It means concretely that Beweship calculates Direct and Indirect emissions regarding its own activity but also up and downstream activities, to be the more transparent and accurate as possible.
Co-operation with subcontractors
Beweship award each year subcontractors that fulfill all requirements concerning sustainable goals, such as equality between all employees, respect of laws and transparency in the business without corruption, use of greener transport solutions when available to minimize environmental impact … According to that questionnaire, Beweship can make sure to work with subcontractors that respect and follow the same values.
